Hi,
I am looking to see if anyone would interested in taking part in the Toronto Workers Oral History Project. I am looking for someone who might want to tell their union story. The interview would be uploaded to https://twhp.ca/the-oral-history-project/ and the goal is for students to make use of it in the future.
Thank you,
Sohail

Hello,
Happy Monday! Hope all is well. My name is Josh Welsh and I’m a journalist with Benefits and Pensions Monitor. I’m reaching out to see if you would have anyone at the Labour Council who could discuss how strike action affects benefits plans.
With the recent LCBO strike, my editors and I have been wondering whether employees essentially still get to keep their benefits when on strike or if they get paused, which stirred up a story idea! I should note this isn’t specifically related to the LCBO strike (except the “news sense”) but just union/employee strikes in general.
Please let me know if there’s anyone on the team who can speak to this this week.
Thank you,
Josh

Hi. Richmond Hill has new updated standards (the Clean Neighbourhoods bylaw) to ensure stone and concrete dust suppression. I understand people who work with stone and concrete can develop ill health as a result of breathing in dust. I’m hoping someone from the council or member union wants to comment on the need for protections like this new bylaw offers. Please let me know – Mike

Hello,
Myself, Tejpal Bobby Bath, Postal Worker, right now serving as the Regional Coordinator for the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) Metro Toronto Region, Toronto Local. I am reaching out to request a brief time slot at your next General Monthly meeting, either virtually or in person.
The purpose of my presentation would be to discuss CUPW’s campaign, “Delivering Community Power,” and seek support from your membership. I would require approximately 10 minutes to outline the objectives and significance of this campaign.
Could you kindly inform me of the date and time of your upcoming meeting? I would appreciate the opportunity to join and present our initiative to your group.
Thank you for considering my request. I look forward to your response.
In Solidarity,
Tejpal (Bobby) Bath

Hello,
I am a producer at CBC’s Metro Morning, the morning CBC Radio program here in Toronto.
I’m reaching out to you because we’re looking to have a conversation on Monday’s show about Ontario intending to do away with mandatory coroner’s inquests for workers who died on construction sites.
I’m interested in the people this is impacting. Is there someone from your organization who is based in Toronto and could speak to this?
Feel free to give me a call at 416-205-7225.
I look forward to hearing from you,
Cassie Argao

Hi there,
I hope you are well
I am doing a radio story this am about Bill 124 and the gov saying its going to try and appeal, I am interested in speaking to someone from your org this morning for a story I am doing.
I am wondering if someone would have 5 minutes to talk to me in the next two hours. (any time before about 10:40am)
We are giving the story to another CBC station as well that’s broadcasting into multiple areas of the province so it will have a wide reach. But it’s not a live thing, I’d just use 2 sentences overall I’d end up using. Please let me know!
If nobody officially representing your org could do it, we could take a public sector worker who’d be affected as well if maybe someone has been advocating with you that comes to mind etc.
My name is Clarrie Feinstein and I’m a business reporter with Toronto Star.
I’m touching base with labour groups today to discuss inflation rate and what this means for people’s wages.
I wanted to know if certain industries will see wages rise and if others will remain stagnant? I also wanted to know what federations and employees can do to advocate for higher wages.
I am on a tight deadline – would someone have availability before 3 pm for a quick phone call?
Thanks,
Clarrie

Hi there, I’m a reporter with Torstar/toronto.com – I tried reaching out on Twitter earlier today, but haven’t heard back.
I might be interested in doing a little piece on your new president Andria Babbington, but for starters I need to know if she is a Toronto resident or grew up in the city and where by neighbourhood/intersection. I always want to localize my stories to Toronto. Thx, J.

Mr. Cartwright,
I’m a writer for ENR, a construction publication, and I’m writing about the racist graffiti and incidents at the Michael Garron hospital construction project.
My question is for some context and it is whether the building trades in metro Toronto are integrated and to what extent.
Do you have any information that would be helpful or can you direct me to the best person to talk to at the building trades.
Any help in the next day or so is appreciated.
Thanks,
Richard

Hi there,
I’m working on a story for Maclean’s about the unionization efforts of gig economy workers—in particular, whether a conventional union model will be sufficient for these workers or whether they’re hoping to adapt that model. I was hoping that someone with the Labour Council might be available to comment, ideally early next week?
Thanks very much,
Sarah
