You are invited to attend a special Roundtable Discussion on the state of labour rights in Hong Kong, co-hosted by the Canadian Labour Congress, Toronto &York Region Labour Council and Asian Canadian Labour Alliance.

Speakers:

Lily Chang, Secretary Treasurer. CLC.

Christopher Mung,

  • Christopher Mung served as Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Confederation of Trade Unions (HKCTU) for more than ten years before the organization was forced to disband under political pressure in 2021.
  • He went into exile in the UK and founded Hong Kong Labour Rights Monitor (HKLRM) the following year, where he continues to work on Hong Kong labour rights and support for trade unions and workers. He is currently the Executive Director of HKLRM. He has been wanted by the Hong Kong authorities under the National Security Law for his activism and criticism of the suppression of Hong Kong’s civil society and labour movement.

Authoritarianism is sweeping the world. Hong Kong is not alone in this fight for labour rights and freedoms including the right to strike.

This roundtable discussion will be an opportunity for labour activists to have a more in-depth conversation about

strategies on building international solidarity, connecting workers across borders in our collective fight against the

exploitations of capitalism and authoritarianism, be it in HK and elsewhere.
