Media Advisory: CUPW Postal Workers Mark Anniversary of Attack on Bargaining Rights

Saturday, December 20th, 2025

WHAT: Workers from the Canadian Union of Postal Workers will hold a rally in front of the Canadian Industrial Relations Board’s Ontario regional office to mark the one year anniversary of the Federal Government’s Section 107 & 108 attacks on CUPW.

The rally will feature speakers from a variety of unions who have had their bargaining rights attacked by the government.

This action is part of a nationwide day of action, with rallies also happening in Vancouver, Edmonton, and other cities.

WHO: Canadian Union of Postal Workers – Toronto and Scarborough Locals

WHEN: 11am, Saturday Dec 20th, 2025

WHERE:  800 Bay Street – CIRB Office, Toronto ON

WHY:

  • The Carney Liberal Government has repeatedly used Section 107 and 108 to side with employers over workers and end strikes. These orders have repeatedly been used to undermine our rights, disrupt our struggles, and attack the labour movement.
  • The attacks against CUPW and other unions’ bargaining rights have prompted a strong pushback from the labour movement.
  • Liberal MPs are ordering Canada Post to eliminate door-to-door delivery, increase delivery times from a maximum 4 days to a maximum of 7 days and close many rural post offices.
  • Tens of thousands of workers could be laid off by these new reforms.
  • Instead of improving Canada Post service and revenues, the government has chosen cutting service and ignoring key reforms that could strengthen the country. It is setting Canada Post up to be sold off to American corporations instead of remaining core infrastructure that is part of a strong, independent Canada.
