School-Property Greenbelt Scandal?

Buried in the Ontario Regulatory Registry last week, was a proposed regulation that would give sweeping power to the Ontario Education Minister to direct school board’s to sell their property.

Not only that, but the regulation would allow the Minister to also “identify to whom the property must be offered”.

The risk of another Greenbelt-like Scandal is obvious – if this regulation passes the Education Minister can now not only tell Boards that they have to sell property, but who they have to specifically sell it to.

The regulation was posted on May 27, 2025 with comment due on Jun 1, 2025, meaning they only gave 3 working days for people to give comment.
