Karen Emerson is a lifelong advocate for children, youth, and strong public education.
Karen has spent decades working with children, youth, parents, and communities. She worked
for longtime TDSB Trustee Sheila Cary-Meagher, helping families navigate the school system,
reducing barriers to parent involvement, and supporting equity and environmental initiatives,
including Model Schools for Inner Cities and Eco-Schools.
As a parent of two, Karen advocated to protect arts and music education and to improve
supports for students with special learning needs. For the past 20 years, she has helped build a
beloved community arts hub in Beaches–East York, working with young people and families
across the community.
Karen is running for TDSB Trustee because she believes every child deserves an excellent
public education, regardless of their needs, identity, or postal code. She believes public
education is one of the most important things we can build together.
Public education is in crisis. Our children deserve better.
Karen will fight for:
- properly funded and equitable schools
- well-resourced special education, arts and music
- mental health supports
- safe buildings
- manageable classroom sizes
- free and fair collective bargaining for education workers
- the restoration of strong, democratic local school board governance.
Their future is our future.
