As Vice President of the largest teachers’ union in Canada, I have the privilege of speaking with educators every day. I visit their classrooms, walk through their schools, and hear first-hand about their struggles and frustrations. But I also hear something else—skepticism.

In my role as an education advocate, I have had the opportunity to visit schools across Toronto, speaking with teachers, education workers, and administrators. Over and over again, I hear the same concerns—overwhelming workloads, burnout, and a struggle to recruit and retain teachers.

The Toronto & York Region Labour Council is seeking a permanent organizer to work as part of the leadership and staff team in a dynamic and fast-paced organization that is responding to a changing economy and new political realities in Canada’s largest urban centre.

The Toronto & York Region Labour Council has an opening for a permanent position on its small and dynamic staff team. Reporting to the President, the successful candidate will lead and implement the Council’s communications programs and presence, contribute to strategic oversight and content development, manage related data, and support our diverse campaigns

At the Health & Safety Activist Awards held on November 15th, 2024, the Labour Council alongside the Workers Health & Safety Centre, Central Ontario Building Trades Council, and Injured Workers Community Legal Clinic held a special evening to recognize the efforts of activists who have made a difference in the prevention of work-related injury and disease.
