TORONTO – Even the wealthiest Torontonians agree: Toronto should raise property taxes on the wealthiest homes to invest now in public services. A recent poll found the vast majority of voters—from across the whole city and across all demographics—support making investments now in public and community services, even if it means a small property tax increase for property valued over $2.5 million.

Great news: Torontonians are united in their support for progressive change.

This fall, there will be a big fight to win fair collective agreements for all of our education workers.  We knew that with the election of a provincial Conservative majority in June that we would need to spend the next four years defending our public institutions such as education and healthcare.

In Ontario, people are supposed to be able to join a union and work with respect and a fair contract. But Premier Ford nearly made that impossible for the safety inspectors and support staff who work for the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA). These workers needed your help to end their strike and get a first contract, and they got it.

The Toronto & York Region Labour Council is horrified and dismayed by another devastating and senseless racially-motivated act of hate.  We are deeply enraged that an eighteen-year-old white supremacist drove into a Black neighbourhood to target Blacks, killing 10 people and injuring 3 others.
