Mike Layton – 2026 Municipal Election

A Trusted Community Leader.

Mike Layton is a climate leader, city builder, and former city councillor with two decades of experience delivering results on sustainability, housing, transportation, and social justice. 

From 2010 to 2022 he represented Trinity-Spadina and University-Rosedale on Toronto City
Council. Dubbed Toronto’s “de facto Environmentalist-in-Chief” by the Toronto Star, Mike was
instrumental in shaping the city’s climate agenda. He spearheaded Toronto’s Biodiversity
Strategy, Transform TO, and the city’s Home Energy Loan Program. 

A cycling advocate, Mike brought bike lanes to Bloor, University, Shaw, Yonge, Harbord, and
College. 

He also pushed for a more affordable and inclusive city, helping advance affordable and
supportive housing, support tenant protections, and secure community space for groups
including the Kensington Market Community Land Trust and the Blackhurst Cultural Centre. 
Mike lives near Christie Pits with his wife and two daughters.
