Where Does the Labour Movement Go From Here?

In April, we elected a Liberal corporate banker as Prime Minister. In February, we re-elected a Conservative multi-millionaire business owner as Premier. Both election outcomes were largely motivated by concerns about Donald Trump.

Federal Election: Urgent Action Needed to Protect Workers from the Trade War

The two parties leading the race, the Liberals and the Conservatives, are both advancing agendas which focus on the needs of businesses first to address the crisis, while only offering bread crumbs to working people. In order to prevent a recession and save jobs, swift action must be taken to protect Canadian industries, but actions which lead to intensifying austerity will only protect profits, not workers.

Labour’s Response to Trump Tariffs

Working people across Canada, and around the world grow increasingly restless and disturbed by news coming from the United States. Now in his second term, Donald Trump, and his billionaire-backers like Elon Musk, are engaged in a vicious attack on working people to further enrich billionaires and wealthy corporations. This includes $4,5 trillion in tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations, and a $2 trillion cut in spending.

Fight for A Better Future!

We recognized that the growing strength and boldness of right wing and corporate forces could no longer be ignored and began to take steps to fight back.

Unite to Defeat the Right

The mounting threat of the far-right in Canada is reaching a level which can no longer be ignored. Their politics seek to set working people against one another, fueling racism and anti-immigrant sentiment, feeding on their anger so that the corporate forces in the country can continue to rob them blind.

Protecting the Right to Protest and Picket

In Toronto and York Region, we are witnessing an alarming rise in anti-democratic, anti-worker motions being introduced by municipal Councillors. Using various pretexts, members of council in Toronto and York Region municipalities are moving motions which seek to limit the charter protected rights of free expression and free assembly. In particular, these motions use the spectre of public safety to crack down on protests which disrupt “critical infrastructure,” a dog whistle for anti-union interventions from
government.
